Managing a company is hard work. There is a budget to balance, employees to pay, quality control to maintain and that’s just a few on the laundry list of responsibilities. Now, thirty years ago in the olden times before computers and the internet became a huge inseparable part of our existence, vacation requests were circled on a wall calendar with the employees name under it, or in more organized companies, typed and filed in a time off folder.
Now, there are many options to keep your employee’s vacation requests organized so your company can be ready to pick up the slack while said employees are soaking up the sun. Many companies have switched from printed time off requests and complicated paper filing and organization to scheduling apps and computer programs that provide a more comprehensive and convenient approach to HR problems.
The programs ensure that every piece of information needed for approval of a request is gathered before the request can be submitted for approval. This of course saves time and resources. Once all the relevant information has been gathered, it then compiles all requests together so that they can be easily managed.
I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that a kind of an impersonal way to get the information? Well, aside from the fact that something of this nature may be a welcome change to a human resource manager who deals with people and their problems every day at a rate that would make Dr. Phil throw in the towel, no. These forms can be customized to meet your company’s needs.
They can reflect the personality of your business. Want to make your request fun? Ask them a crazy question or word it in a less formal way. To be honest as long as the employee gets the time off I highly doubt there are many situations that are going to scare them away from making a request!
So, what have we learned here today? Circling a date on the calendar that no one looks at is an inefficient way to manage your business and computers and the internet rule! Managing your vacation request virtually can be a great asset to your company.
